Facebook has gained a lot of negative spotlights for all the data breach scandals it has got its head into. Adding more to the scrutiny, the social networking site is now under criminal investigation by federal prosecutors, as per a report by The New York Times. The grand jury inquiry was on behalf of the US attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York. When contacted by CNN Business, the Eastern District did not have a comment on the case. To recall, Facebook was previously being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Following a lot of security-related issues, Facebook has claimed that it will work hard to solve the problems. However, nothing seems to have taken shape at the moment.
The company has been juggling a number of scandals and investigations since the Cambridge Analytica revelations nearly a year ago. Last week, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company would be pivoting to privacy, focusing more on its messaging platforms and enabling more ephemeral features and encrypted chats.
